The Intelligents

Intelligence is an umbrella term used to describe a property of the mind

Theories of intelligence can be divided into general intelligence and multiple intelligences.

Francis Galton, influenced by his cousin Charles Darwin, was the first to advance a theory of general intelligence. For Galton, intelligence was a real faculty of biological utility.]

Alfred Binet and the French school of intelligence believed that intelligence was an average of numerous dissimilar abilities, rather than a unitary entity with specific identifiable properties. Ways of intelligence: creativity, personality, emotional, character, knowledge, and wisdom. By this rationale, intelligence (as understanding) is arguably different from being "smart" (able to adapt to one's environment)

The preformance of deeds ... killer whales flipping about in a swimming pool for stale fish ... requires intelligent understanding of the task. But it requires no spiritual awareness, it is heartless.

The Intellect

What is the intellect ?

Maeterlinck calls it "the quality which enables us to comprehend at last that all is incomprehensible".

Humphreys says "intellect is an essential tool in the hands of a developed man. By it alone he climbs beyond the power of merely sensuous reaction and the sway of his desires. By it alone he compares, selects and evaluates in terms of an ever receding ideal."

R.H. Blyth says "the intellect is guilty of constructing dogmas, systems of philosophy which imprison the mind until it mopes like a monkey in a cage".

Aldous Huxley says "In the last analysis the use and purpose of reason is to create the internal and external conditions fovourable to its own transfiguration by and into spirit. It is the lamp by which it finds the way to go beyond itself"

Dr. Suzuki calls "the intellect upsets the blissful peace of ignorance, and yet it does not restore the former state of things by offering something else… It is not final, it awaits for something higher than itself for the solution of all the questions it will raise regardless of consequences".

The meaning of all things is You! It is an absolute journey, alway going there but never yet there, the one ticket to self-discovery.
